Q. Will you come and provide lessons at my home? Or do you work from a set location?
A. I now teach from the String Lark Lessons studio "Nest" (attached to my home) in Rochester, NY, and I am also willing to drive you! If you live in the Rochester area, it is UP TO YOU!
(For 10 years I worked from studios located in the Seattle area. )
Q. What ages do you teach?
A. Ages 7 and up on guitar and electric bass. Ages 5 and up on piano and ukulele.
Q. What do I need to have?
A. An instrument for your child, for sure! A notebook and folder/binder are recommended. For guitar, electric bass, and uke, if there is a particular book you would like to learn from, then we can work for that. (I can make recommendations.) If you want to learn with a pick, have a few..they like to go missing! For piano, please see my "About Lessons" page for course books - we will definitely discuss!
Q. Can parents sit in on lessons?
A. Yes. For younger students, I encourage the parents to stay for at least the first lesson.
However, (especially for older children) after the first 3-5 lessons, I prefer to offer the student privacy from parental overview.
Many children feel nervous to “perform” when someone is watching. For example, as a parent approaches the front door at the end of a lesson, I'll ask the student if he/she wants to show-off what we were just playing. Usually the answer is "no" - they want to wait till it's ready and they get too nervous to play for "an audience".
***Essentially, it is up to the parent.
Q. What happens when I am ready to conclude my child's music lessons?
A. If you have paid in advance for any number of lessons you will be reimbursed IN FULL.
Q. What is your cancellation policy?
A. 24-hour cancellation notice is requested. A minimum of 2 hours-notice is required to get reimbursed for cancellations.
